It would be accidental on Zir's part at least because it usually is. To him it's just like being able to smell something, an afterthought you look at once you realize it's there. It's pretty much the most useless psychic ability ever and he wishes he had a cooler one. So he probably wouldn't ever even notice that Eighis keeps a shield up, just figures there's nothing there.
